AIIMS NEW DELHI PATIENT GUIDE

AIIMS Delhi Online Appointment and ORS Guide

Clear, independent guidance based on official hospital and government sources. Understand the process before entering patient details on an official service.

✓ Official sources reviewed

✓ No patient data collected

Updated September 2026

AIIMS New Delhi directs patients seeking an online OPD appointment to the official ORS service. Before opening ORS, identify whether the patient is new, already has an AIIMS UHID or is returning for follow-up. That distinction can change which route should be used and helps avoid unnecessary duplicate registration.

This page explains the process. It does not book, cancel, reschedule or confirm an appointment.

Who this guide is for

Use this guide when you need to understand:

  • how the current ORS appointment process generally works;
  • what a new patient should have ready;
  • how an existing or follow-up patient differs;
  • what an appointment slip means;
  • why calling does not reveal a separate pool of appointments;
  • what to do before travelling after a booking.

If your main question is how hospital registration works after booking, use the OPD registration guide. If you already have a UHID and are unsure whether to begin again, read the UHID guide first.

What ORS is—and what it is not

ORS means Online Registration System. It is a Government of India patient portal used by participating hospitals for services such as OPD appointments and, where supported, access to lab reports. AIIMS New Delhi's official appointment page directs patients to ORS for online OPD booking.

ORS is the service that displays the hospital, department and appointment choices currently made available to it. AIIMS OPD Guide does not copy that live availability because copied dates would quickly become wrong. This guide helps you understand the choices before you enter the official system.

ORS is not:

  • a guarantee that every AIIMS department has an online slot;
  • a guarantee that a named doctor will be selectable;
  • a substitute for a referral required by a specialty clinic;
  • an emergency triage service;
  • the same thing as this independent guide website; or
  • a reason to create a second patient record when the patient already has an AIIMS New Delhi UHID.

The three decisions to make before you start

Which AIIMS institution?

Choose AIIMS, New Delhi only when that is the institution the patient intends to visit. Other AIIMS institutes are separate hospitals with their own departments, records and service rules. Do not choose New Delhi simply because the desired department is missing under another institute.

Which patient status?

Use the new-patient route when the patient does not already have the relevant AIIMS New Delhi hospital record. Use the existing-patient or follow-up route when an earlier UHID, OPD card or return instruction applies. If unsure, check old hospital documents before starting a new registration.

Which department?

Use the department named on a referral, earlier prescription or follow-up instruction. A booking portal may list service names that are unfamiliar, but selecting the nearest-sounding option without evidence can send the patient to the wrong queue. This website explains department names and locations; it does not diagnose a condition or choose a specialty from symptoms.

Choose the correct patient route first

New patient

ORS currently says a new patient can use a registered mobile number or ABHA for the appointment route. ABHA may support patient identification and record continuity, but it should not be described as universally mandatory for every booking route.

A new patient should be ready to select the hospital and department, check available dates, provide the patient details requested by the official service, complete OTP verification and save the appointment slip produced at the end.

Existing patient with UHID

An existing patient should preserve the earlier hospital identity rather than treating every new visit as a completely new registration. The official follow-up service provides a separate UHID-based login route. Read the UHID instructions before creating another patient record.

Follow-up patient

A follow-up patient should begin with the instruction given after the earlier consultation and the official follow-up pathway. A department's return instruction may be more specific than a general new-appointment explanation.

How the online appointment process works

The live interface can change its labels, but the current ORS FAQ describes this overall sequence:

  1. Select the participating hospital and the relevant department.
  2. Choose from the appointment dates or slots shown by the official service.
  3. Enter the patient details requested on the official page.
  4. Complete the mobile OTP step.
  5. Review the details before submission.
  6. Generate and save the appointment slip or acknowledgement.

Only the official service can show current availability. This guide does not reproduce or estimate live slots.

The current ORS login page offers access using a mobile number or ABHA. After login, the new-patient flow described in the ORS FAQ proceeds through state, hospital and department/OPD selection, then the available doctor or slot choices, patient details, OTP verification and confirmation. Screen wording can change, so use the purpose of each step rather than relying on an old screenshot.

1. Confirm the hospital

AIIMS New Delhi is separate from AIIMS Bhopal, Patna, Rishikesh and other institutes. Check the hospital name before entering patient details. A booking or UHID associated with one institution should not be assumed to work at another.

When the service first asks for a state, choose the state in which the hospital is located, then locate AIIMS New Delhi in the hospital list. Recheck the full hospital name before continuing.

2. Select the department named in your care route

Use the department named in a referral, earlier prescription or hospital instruction when you have one. If you do not know which department is appropriate, this website cannot safely decide from symptoms. Seek guidance from a qualified healthcare professional or an official hospital information source.

General OPD and specialty or super-specialty clinics do not always have the same entry rules. AIIMS New Delhi's citizen charter says specialty and super-specialty consultation may require referral from AIIMS general OPD or another government institution. Seeing a clinic name on a schedule therefore does not automatically prove that any new patient can directly book it.

3. Review the dates actually displayed

The dates shown on ORS are the dates available for that selection at that time. An empty calendar, missing department or unavailable date does not mean a third-party agent can unlock a hidden slot.

Check whether the displayed choice is a date, time or doctor/clinic selection. Do not assume the booking time is the same as the hospital registration or consultation time. The final slip and department instruction determine what the patient should follow.

4. Enter the patient's own details

Use the patient's accurate details and a mobile number that can receive verification messages. If an existing-patient route requests a UHID, use the identifier connected with that patient's AIIMS New Delhi record.

Do not enter the attendant's name as the patient merely because the attendant controls the phone. Before submitting, compare spelling, age/date of birth and other requested information with the patient's records. Consistent details reduce problems when the booking is connected with the hospital record.

5. Complete verification and check the summary

Enter an OTP only on the official service. Before confirming, check the patient name, hospital, department and appointment date. Correcting a wrong selection before submission is easier than arriving at the wrong service.

If the portal offers mobile-number and ABHA login, choose the route the patient can complete correctly. ABHA is a national digital health identifier; UHID is the hospital identifier connected with the AIIMS record. One should not be silently substituted for the other.

6. Save the confirmation

Download the slip when available, take a screenshot and keep the confirmation SMS. These copies are useful if the PDF fails to open later or mobile connectivity is weak on the day of the visit.

Read the slip instead of treating it only as proof of booking. Look for the hospital, department, date, reporting or registration instruction, appointment number and any note about documents or payment. If the slip contains a more specific instruction than this general guide, follow the slip.

A first-time patient's complete booking checklist

Before opening ORS

  1. Confirm that AIIMS New Delhi is the intended hospital.
  2. Confirm the department from a referral or qualified guidance.
  3. Decide whether this is truly a new patient or an earlier AIIMS record exists.
  4. Keep the patient's mobile available for OTP verification.
  5. Keep the patient's correct identity details ready.
  6. Decide where the appointment slip will be saved.

While using ORS

  1. Confirm the official `ors.gov.in` domain.
  2. Use mobile-number or ABHA login as offered on the current screen.
  3. Choose the state, AIIMS New Delhi and the correct department/OPD.
  4. Review only the dates and slots actually displayed.
  5. Select the correct patient type.
  6. Enter the patient's details—not the attendant's details.
  7. Complete OTP verification privately.
  8. Recheck the summary before confirming.

Immediately after booking

  1. Download or print the appointment slip when offered.
  2. Take a screenshot of the confirmation.
  3. Preserve the confirmation SMS or appointment number.
  4. Read all reporting and registration instructions on the slip.
  5. Organize earlier prescriptions and reports for the visit.
  6. Check the correct building or centre instead of assuming every OPD is in one block.

What to prepare before opening ORS

  • Confirm that the institution is AIIMS New Delhi.
  • Know whether the patient is new, existing or returning for follow-up.
  • Keep access to the patient's registered mobile where the official service requires OTP verification.
  • If the patient already has a UHID or earlier AIIMS record, keep it available and read the follow-up route first.
  • Know the department named in an existing referral or hospital instruction. This website cannot choose a department from symptoms.
  • Be ready to save the final appointment slip.

Never enter an OTP, UHID, Aadhaar number, ABHA number or appointment ID on this website.

New appointment and follow-up are not interchangeable

Patient situationStart withAvoid
Never registered at AIIMS New DelhiNew-patient appointment explanationInventing an existing UHID
Has an earlier AIIMS New Delhi UHIDExisting-patient or UHID route shown by the official serviceCreating a second record without first checking the earlier one
Told to return after consultation or testsThe department's follow-up instruction and existing recordStarting again as an unrelated new case
Has a referral or centre-specific directionThe named department or centre's instructionTreating a general guide as more specific than the referral

The practical reason to preserve the earlier record is continuity: prior consultations, prescriptions and investigations may be connected to it. Read the UHID guide if you are unsure where the number appears or how it differs from ABHA.

If no appointment is available

A missing slot is not evidence that the site is broken or that a third party has access to hidden availability. Availability depends on the department and the slots released through the official system.

AIIMS states that its listed telephone appointment service and ORS use the same appointment pool. Calling therefore does not provide a separate set of slots when ORS shows none.

Useful next steps are:

  1. Confirm that the correct hospital and department were selected.
  2. Confirm whether the patient should use the new-patient or UHID/follow-up route.
  3. Recheck the official service later without relying on unofficial slot promises.
  4. Use the appointment telephone service only for its stated purpose, not as a general enquiry or hidden-slot service.
  5. Follow a department-specific instruction when one has already been issued.

Do not pay anyone claiming to provide priority access to AIIMS appointments.

Common booking problems

The department is not listed

First confirm that AIIMS New Delhi was selected. A missing department may mean it is not currently offered through that online route, uses another service name or requires a different referral/follow-up process. Do not select an unrelated department merely to obtain a date.

OTP does not arrive

Check the mobile number, network and message delay before requesting another OTP. For an existing patient, the number held in the hospital record may differ from the number currently being used. Never share an OTP with an unofficial helper.

The appointment was confirmed but the slip will not download

Check whether the PDF opened in a new browser tab, look in the Downloads folder and allow pop-ups for the official domain. Preserve the confirmation SMS and appointment number. A download problem does not automatically mean the appointment failed.

The existing record is not found

Recheck the UHID exactly as printed on the earlier AIIMS document. Confirm that it belongs to AIIMS New Delhi and to the same patient. Do not repeatedly create new records to work around a mismatch.

A preferred doctor's name is not shown

Online availability may be organized by department or clinic rather than by a specific doctor. Follow the options shown by the official service and any existing department instruction; this guide cannot promise an individual clinician.

Telephone appointment option

AIIMS lists these numbers specifically for OPD appointment booking:

  • 011-26589142
  • 011-26589143
  • 011-26589144
  • 011-26589145

The listed working-day hours are:

  • Monday to Friday: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Saturday: 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

These are appointment-booking numbers, not general enquiry or emergency numbers. AIIMS also states that telephone and ORS appointments use the same slot pool.

Avoid the removed AIIMS mobile app

AIIMS states that an older AIIMS app was removed from Google Play because it was non-functional. Do not follow old articles that direct patients to that removed app. The existence of an old PDF, screenshot or app name does not make it a current appointment route.

After receiving an appointment slip

Save the slip in a form you can access during the visit. Then read the first-visit guide and OPD registration guide. An online appointment is an important step, but it does not by itself explain arrival, hospital-side registration, department instructions or follow-up continuity.

Check the patient name, selected institution, department and date shown on the official confirmation. If something is incorrect, use only the correction or support route provided by the official service. Do not send the slip or patient identifiers to an unofficial website for help.

What usually happens at AIIMS after online booking

The online confirmation prepares the appointment route; it does not mean the patient can skip every hospital-side step. AIIMS New Delhi's citizen charter distinguishes registration time from consultation time and says patients register at the counter for the relevant OPD after obtaining the OPD card under the published general process. A department or appointment slip may provide a more specific pathway.

For a first visit, plan for this sequence:

  1. Reach the correct AIIMS campus, block or centre named for the department.
  2. Keep the appointment slip and patient records accessible.
  3. Follow the registration or verification instruction shown on the slip or at the relevant OPD.
  4. Preserve any UHID or OPD card created or confirmed during the visit.
  5. Wait for the consultation according to the department's process.
  6. Keep prescriptions, investigation requests and the next follow-up instruction together afterward.

Do not assume that the appointment time, registration window and consultation order are identical. The AIIMS Delhi OPD timings guide will separate these concepts using institution- and department-specific sources.

What to keep together for the visit

  • official appointment confirmation or slip;
  • the existing AIIMS New Delhi UHID or OPD card, if the patient has one;
  • the referral or follow-up instruction, when applicable;
  • previous prescriptions and discharge papers relevant to the visit;
  • investigation reports and imaging requested for review;
  • a current medicine list; and
  • any identity document specifically requested by the official confirmation.

This is a preparation list, not a universal document guarantee. The confirmation and department instruction control when they name something more specific.

Appointment questions patients often confuse

Is Aadhaar always compulsory?

Do not treat Aadhaar and ABHA as the same thing. ORS may offer more than one verification or identification route, and the current screen determines what is requested. This independent website does not need either number.

Can a family member help with booking?

A trusted family member can assist with navigation, but the booking must use the patient's accurate information and any OTP must be handled with the patient's permission. Avoid agents who ask for credentials or claim privileged access.

Is an appointment the same as registration?

No. An appointment reserves or records a consultation route. Hospital registration connects the visit with the patient record and may include additional steps. The OPD registration guide explains that difference.

Should an emergency wait for an OPD slot?

No. Routine appointment guidance is not emergency guidance. A person who may need urgent medical attention should use the appropriate emergency service rather than wait for a future OPD booking.

Official service

After understanding the applicable route, continue to the ORS Patient Portal, an official Government of India service used for participating hospitals.

Existing or follow-up patients can review the separate ORS follow-up patient portal. Do not enter the UHID or other credentials anywhere except the verified official destination.
