AIIMS New Delhi's citizen charter publishes a ₹10 OPD card charge under its general outpatient process. That figure should not be described as the total cost of every consultation, investigation, procedure or AIIMS institute.
This page separates the published OPD-card charge from variable service costs and explains what records different patients should prepare.
Fees: what the ₹10 figure means
The citizen charter states that an OPD card costing ₹10 can be purchased at the main counter on the OPD ground floor, followed by registration at the relevant OPD counter. A current appointment or department instruction may describe the applicable workflow more specifically.
The ₹10 statement does not establish:
- the price of every investigation;
- the price of medicines, procedures or certificates;
- the policy at another AIIMS institute;
- eligibility for free or subsidized services; or
- a guaranteed payment method for every counter.
Investigation and other charges
AIIMS states that some investigations are free and others are charged under prevailing government norms. Payment should be made only at designated hospital cash counters with a proper receipt.
Do not rely on a generic blog price for MRI, CT, biopsy, surgery or specialty treatment. The applicable service, patient category and current hospital rule determine the charge.
Documents for a first-time patient
- appointment confirmation or slip;
- identity document requested by the official service;
- referral when applicable;
- previous prescriptions and reports relevant to the current visit;
- discharge summary if treatment occurred elsewhere;
- current medicine list; and
- a working phone containing the confirmation message.
Documents for an existing patient
- earlier AIIMS New Delhi UHID or OPD card;
- latest AIIMS prescription;
- current appointment or follow-up confirmation;
- reports ordered since the earlier visit;
- discharge or procedure records where relevant; and
- current medicines.
Documents for follow-up after tests
Keep each report with the prescription that ordered it. Include the investigation receipt, report date, imaging disc or films when issued, and the doctor's return instruction. A downloaded PDF alone may not contain the context needed for review.
Aadhaar, ABHA and UHID are different
ABHA is a national digital health identifier; UHID is the hospital identifier connected with the AIIMS record. Aadhaar can be involved in some identity or ABHA processes, but these identifiers should not be presented as interchangeable.
Use only the identity route shown by the official service. This website never asks for any of these numbers.
Payment and document safety
- Pay only through the official service or designated hospital counter.
- Obtain and retain a receipt.
- Do not send identity documents, OTPs or reports to an appointment agent.
- Do not upload patient records to this guide website.
- Keep digital copies on a private device rather than a public messaging group.
If a document is missing
An existing patient should first check old OPD slips, prescriptions, receipts and discharge papers for the UHID. If a referral or department instruction is required, do not replace it with an unrelated internet printout.
Build one patient folder
Place the current appointment or referral at the front, followed by the AIIMS OPD card, the newest prescription, reports requested at the last consultation, discharge summaries and a medicine list. This order lets staff and the clinician see the present purpose quickly without searching through unrelated papers.
For digital backups, use clear filenames such as `2026-09-24_Cardiology_Prescription.pdf`. Keep them available offline because mobile connectivity may be unreliable inside a large hospital building.
Documents by visit stage
| Visit stage | Priority documents |
|---|---|
| New patient | Appointment confirmation, applicable identity document, referral if the clinic requires it, relevant previous records |
| Existing patient | Earlier OPD card/UHID, current confirmation, latest prescription and relevant reports |
| Follow-up after tests | Follow-up note, UHID/OPD card, ordered investigation and result, current medicine list |
| Referred specialty clinic | Referral carrying the named specialty/clinic, existing records and booking confirmation where applicable |
Expenses beyond registration
Registration, consultation, investigations, procedures, medicines and admission are different cost categories. A published OPD-card amount should not be presented as the total cost of care. Charges and exemptions can depend on the service and patient category. Ask the official billing or registration point for the current amount before paying.
Keep official receipts. Do not transfer money to a personal account because someone promises a faster appointment, report or admission.
If the name differs across documents
Minor spelling or demographic differences can interfere with record matching. Carry the original supporting document and ask the official registration service how to correct the record. Do not create repeated identities or edit a document yourself. This website cannot receive identity proofs or make corrections.
Frequently asked questions
Is Aadhaar compulsory for every AIIMS OPD step?
Do not treat Aadhaar, ABHA and UHID as interchangeable. Follow the exact identity options displayed by the current official route and the hospital's applicable instruction.
Is a mobile screenshot of the appointment sufficient?
The confirmation should be readable and available offline. Carry a printout when the slip or department instruction specifically asks for one.
Should I carry every old report?
Prioritize reports relevant to the current department and those specifically requested. A concise chronological folder is more useful than an unsorted bundle.
