AIIMS New Delhi does not operate as one OPD room or one building. General departments, surgical services and super-specialty centres are distributed across different blocks and campuses. This directory helps patients match a department or centre already named on an appointment, referral or prescription with its published location.
It does not recommend a department from symptoms and does not replace medical referral.

Check the spelling on the referral or appointment. A missing result does not mean the service is unavailable; it means this directory has not matched a verified name.
How to use the finder safely
- Read the exact department, clinic or centre name on the patient's document.
- Search that name or a common abbreviation such as ENT, PMR, CNC or RP Centre.
- Compare the result with the hospital and building shown on the appointment.
- Check the applicable appointment, referral and schedule information.
- Follow a more specific instruction issued by the department.
Do not select a different department because its name sounds related or because it displays an earlier appointment.
RAK OPD Block and Extended OPD Building
The AIIMS OPD guidance page identifies the Raj Kumari Amrit Kaur OPD Block as the main location for many clinical departments and provides a floor-wise directory. The citizen charter also refers to the adjoining Extended OPD Building for Medicine and Pediatrics services.
A floor directory helps with orientation after the correct department is known. It does not establish eligibility, referral status, live room allocation or appointment availability.
Surgery Block, Majid Moth Campus
The official Surgical Disciplines workflow places its morning OPD on the ground floor of the Surgery Block at the Majid Moth Campus. It also lists afternoon specialty clinics, with some clinic locations stated separately.
A patient booked for Surgical Disciplines should therefore not automatically report to the floor shown for “Surgery” in an older general RAK directory. The current appointment and department instruction are more specific.
Super-specialty centres
The AIIMS citizen charter identifies centres including the Cardio Thoracic and Neuro Sciences Centre, Dr. Rajendra Prasad Centre for Ophthalmic Sciences, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Institute Rotary Cancer Hospital and the National Drug Dependence Treatment Centre.
Each centre contains distinct services. A centre name should be combined with the department or clinic on the patient document. “CNC,” for example, should not be treated as one universal OPD for cardiology, neurology, neurosurgery and cardiothoracic services.
Similar names that should not be mixed
- Gastroenterology and Gastrointestinal Surgery are different services.
- General Surgery and a named surgical specialty clinic may have different sessions.
- General Ophthalmology information should not be substituted for a specific RP Centre clinic instruction.
- Cancer services may involve different oncology specialties and locations.
- Orthopaedics at the main hospital should not be confused with a service specifically named at JPNATC.
If the department is not found
A missing directory result does not prove the department is unavailable. Recheck spelling, abbreviations and the institution name. The referral may name a unit, clinic or centre rather than the parent department. Use the official appointment or department source instead of guessing.
How AIIMS New Delhi services are organized
Patients may see four different kinds of names: a broad clinical department, a specialty clinic, a super-specialty centre, or a building. These names answer different questions. “Cardiology” names a clinical service; “Cardio-Neuro Centre” identifies a centre; a clinic name may identify a narrower session; and “RAK OPD” identifies a patient location. Matching only one word can lead to the wrong counter.
Department selection checklist
- Use the exact specialty written by the referring doctor whenever one is available.
- For a previous patient, use the department or clinic on the latest AIIMS prescription.
- Distinguish adult and paediatric services where both exist.
- Do not treat a centre name as interchangeable with every department inside it.
- Check the appointment slip again after booking; the selected department should match the intended route.
Department, clinic and building examples
| Information on your document | What to identify next |
|---|---|
| General Surgery | Surgery Block location and applicable registration session |
| Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation | Department-specific appointment and registration instructions |
| A centre such as RP Centre, CNC or IRCH | The department or clinic inside that centre plus its patient entry point |
| An afternoon specialty clinic | Referral requirement, registration time and named clinic |
| A follow-up unit | The written unit or clinic, not merely the broad department |
If you selected the wrong department
Keep the appointment confirmation and check whether the official booking service offers correction, cancellation or rescheduling. Do not assume the hospital counter can transfer every booking on arrival. If travel is imminent, use the relevant official support category and explain the selected department and the department written on the referral without sending medical records to this website.
Frequently asked questions
Can the finder choose a department from symptoms?
No. Choosing a specialty from symptoms is a clinical decision. The finder matches names already provided on a referral, prescription or appointment.
Why is a department not shown on ORS?
Its appointments may use a different clinic name, a referral route, an existing-patient process or a service not currently displayed for new booking.
Is the department office the same as the OPD?
Not always. Use the patient-facing OPD location on the appointment or current department instruction.
